TEAM FAVORITES

Jim, Wendy and Kathy recommend to our readers the following people, places and things to see, read and do!  We are in love with the Ballantyne area so pardon our prejudice for that.  We also like the Arboretum (drive defensively in that parking lot, please!) and all of the growing southeast sections of Charlotte.

When it comes to good food - always a favorite of ours - try the Cajun Yard Dog or Dakotas at the Arboretum, www.cajunyarddog.com or 131 Main, www.131-main.com  for a fun lunch.  Jim's favorite for lunch or breakfast is Eddie's in Ballantyne.  Eddie's is a casual diner type place which takes Jim back to those early days in Brooklyn!  The annual 'Out to Lunch Top 10 List' by The Charlotte Observer included the Village Bistro in Ballantyne Village and the Rising Roll Gourmet in Conlan Circle, Ballantyne.  For Fried Chicken, don't miss Price's Chicken on South Blvd.

If you're interested in a dining event and are tossing away all cares for the family budget, don't miss The McNinch House, www.McNinchhouseRestaurant.com.

If you like wonderful ambiance and terrific food, please stop by Pewter Rose, South Blvd, 704.332.8149. www.pewterrose.com

Ballantyne Village is a great place to hang out!  There is the colorful Tower, the Village Theater, shops and reataurants to be found.  Some of our favorite stores are Salutations and Under The Grape.  If you need a special greeting card or quality invitations you cannot beat the customer service at Salutations.  At Under the Grape you can find owners who love their work and are highly knowledgable about wine.  Table Restaurant is gorgeous and sister to the uptown Blue Restaurant.

Ballantyne Village also has a fresh produce vendor offering local fruits and vegetables seven days a week. It's located in front of The Daily Chef.  Look for the black and white awning.  In late 2009, high rise condos will be added to the Village.   Kelwins is open to offer choclates and ice cream there as well.  Lots going on!

Jim and Kathy have a great appreciation for the arts (they both sing beautifully) and occassionally we will keep you up on Charlotte's wonderfully robust theater schedule.   The Pineville Dinner Theater has reopened and the Childrens' Theater is fantastic!  The 2008 schedule is available on their website www.ctcharlotte.org.

For some fun outdoors, please try all of the gorgeous golf courses in our area from Ballantyne Resort to Regent Park near Carowinds.  The addition of the new U.S. National Whitewater Center is exciting and we are hoping to bring you more info on that soon.  We know that it is free to enter the park for trail walking and to eat in the new restaurant, 'The Eddy', which serves lunch and dinner while you can view the whitewater channels and the sunset!

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELL PHONE COULD DO.
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be
a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST
Subject:  Emergencies
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.  If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your
mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked.  Try it out.

SECOND
Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.  Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).  Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!"

THIRD
Subject: Hidden Cell Phone Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery.  This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

FOURTH
Subject:  How to disable a LOST or STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 #  A 15 digit code will appear on the screen.  This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep
it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your
phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile
phones. And Finally...

FIFTH
Subject:  Beat extra phone costs.
Cell phone companies are charging customers $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to.  Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.
